In the heart of Iowa's lake country is Gull Point State Park, a 195-acre preserve developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Three clear lakes in the area make Gull Point a centerpiece for outdoor recreation in northwestern Iowa.

West Okoboji Lake is deep and sparkling blue, fed by subterranean springs. In summer, its waters are used by sailboats, canoes, fishing boats and windsurfing boards. Below, divers explore its geological formations.

This is prime fishing country, with bass, walleye, pike, bluegill, and crappie.

A campground offers 112 campsites, two of which are wheelchair-accessible. A historic lodge is available for group rental by day.

A 1.5-mile hiking trail is popular with birdwatchers in summer and cross-country skiers in winter.

Outdoor Activities

The spring-fed waters of West Okoboji Lake, in Gull Point State Park, offer excellent fishing.

A shady spot along the lake is one of many beautiful settings in Gull Point State Park.

Gull Point Lodge, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, is the largest stone lodge in the state.
