Open Year-Round Entry Fee Charged

While Grizzly Creek Park and Cheatham Grove cover only 400 acres, it is large enough to provide visitors with a sense of tranquil seclusion. The park is likely to grow to nearly 2,000 acres as part of the Headwaters Forest agreement. It receives so few visitors in the off-season that on a weekday, it is possible to be the only person in one of its groves of coast redwoods.

Hikers can explore the park along 4.5 miles of hiking trails. Cheatham Grove, within the park, is an exceptional stand of ancient coast redwoods.

The Van Duzen River flows beside the campground and offers great fishing and kayaking in winter and swimming and canoeing in summer.

The campground is open year-round and can accommodate tents as well as 24-foot trailers and 30-foot motor homes. However, there are no hookups.

The visitor center has exhibits and a bookstore. Nature walks, campfires and Junior Ranger programs are offered in summer.

Summer temperatures average a pleasant 70 to 80 degrees F. Winter temperatures range from 40 to 50 degrees F.

From November to May is the area's rainy season. About 65 inches of rain fall annually.
